Over the years there have been many improvements and modifications to factory produced airframes (sometimes to the chagrin of the manufacturers!).  Some increase power, speed, useful load or fuel capacity, while others enhance safety.  Some are just done to improve an aircraft's appearance. IS VALUE ADDED? The increase in value for a plane with a particular mod is often relatively unrelated to the cost of it's initial installation (despite the protestations of it's owner).  The value of any mod lies in it's usefulness to you as a buyer, and what it contributes to the aircraft overall. 

Price out the aircraft without the mod, and decide if the additional premium asked by the seller is reasonable to you: "Do I really want to pay an extra $5,500 for fancy looking wheel fairings?"
